SDL Tridion Consultancy & Upgrade
Good questions drive the right answer
Background
Warrington Borough Council (WBC) had chosen SDL Tridion as their strategic platform five years previously. Although the system functioned, it was felt that the organisation would benefit from an upgraded platform - the five year old SDL Tridion R5.2 had also recently become unsupported.
Building Blocks were asked to perform an audit of the implementation and how the CMS was currently being used.
WBC were keen to see how improvements could be made to assist editors and content contributors, if any 'quick wins' were possible and how ROI in the technology could be maximised.
Solution
Building Blocks' two day on-site review assessed the technical infrastructure and implementation. Interviews and discussions with WBC's web team highlighted system weaknesses, and what improvements the team were looking for. Future plans were also taken into account, and how the web platform could support these.
A further day on-site gave the Building Blocks team the chance to speak with non-technical staff, and to gain an understanding of how they used the platform and related issues that concerned them.
- Audit report produced, detailing findings and improvement suggestions for both technical and process issues
- Building Blocks, WBC web team and IT personnel co-produce detailed plan for upgrade, and pre-requisites for completing the work quickly with minimum disruption for content editors
- Building Blocks infrastructure consultant performs upgrade on-site at WBC, including preparing new presentation servers
- Development environment upgraded, acceptance tests run, verification with WBC team completed
- Production environment upgraded with minimal publishing downtime
- Upgrade completed in 5 days, no issues reported, several previous performance issues resolved
WBC's platform is now performing to optimum levels and is 'future-ready' - a solution implemented according to best practice, and ready to incorporate new initiatives quickly and cost effectively as they arise.
