Filling Station Locator

Driving business the right way for AIR1 throughout the world

Background

AIR1 is the brand name for AdBlue, a nitrogen oxide emission reduction solution for large diesel vehicles. The product is made by Yara, and retailed at thousands of filling stations around the world.

The company wanted to provide a 'store finder' website feature for drivers. This interactive tool would be required to identify filling stations selling AdBlue on a driver's route. AIR1 also wanted the tool to give route directions, including any detours that might be required to reach the filling station.

And as AIR1 is sold world wide, the solution would have to work for many different territories, and feature several different languages.

Solution

Building Blocks built a map solution based on the Google Maps API and the jQuery Javascript library:

  • Simple user operation - journey start location and destination are entered, route is calculated including AIR1 filling stations along the way
  • Additional locations en route can also be entered for drivers with multiple drops or pick ups to perform
  • Solution displays exact directions, distances and estimated journey times
  • Extra client side and C# server side logic ensures that only filling stations within 10 miles of the given route are highlighted
  • Extension built to the SDL Tridion CMS, allowing Yara to upload the list of all AIR1 stockists in the world to SDL Tridion in Excel format. The list can now be published using standard SDL Tridion mechanisms, reducing the need for specialist IT support
